Education + Talent

In the brainy Northeast corridor, Rhode Island draws thousands of bright minds to our world class colleges and universities - vibrant institutions that crackle with creativity and burst with vision. Rhode Island's exceptional talent pipeline is making products, developing services and forming businesses that are revolutionizing the world around us.

From welders assembling nuclear submarines, software engineers developing inventory tracking solutions to artists designing best-selling toys, Rhode Island has a smart and diverse workforce.

In fact, the Providence metro area ranks second in the nation in the growth of workers with advanced degrees, according to Cleveland State University's Center for Population Dynamics report, "A Newer Geography of Jobs: Where Workers with Advanced Degrees are Concentrating the Fastest".

The study states that the figures "indicate there is a notable economic restructuring occurring in Indianapolis, Cleveland and Providence that is perhaps forming a next generation of innovation nodes".
There are 220 colleges and universities within a four-hour drive of downtown Providence (8.5% of the U.S. total).
Rhode Island's colleges and universities are responding to market opportunities and labor demands by expanding or initiating new programs.

Rhode Island's 12 colleges and universities, all located within the small footprint of our state and in close proximity to New York and Boston, are attracting and retaining talent, fueling innovation and entrepreneurship, and supporting our emerging innovation economy.
